I Need Your Help

Hey everyone. Remember when I started that Vlog? Remember when I had that "awesome" idea to start off doing a 30 Days of Vlogging? Yeah let me tell you the truth. It's hard. I'm not saying that I don't like vlogging, because I do. Thinking of a topic to talk about is very difficult, let alone 30 days worth. Monday's are easy, since I talk about Power Rangers. But lately my videos have been getting weird. So please.
If anybody has any questions or suggestions for my next vlog I'll take them. I would love for them to be reading or writing related. Simply leave a comment below or at the end of any video. Here are a couple of my favorites.

And a random one about cereal. I like cereal.

Thank you all so much. I look forward to hearing your questions and suggestions.

On a whim I entered WRiTE CLUB the other day. Don't know what it is? Go here to check it out. I'll wait.
Are you back? Good. For those of you who didn't read the post I'll give you a brief rundown. Each WRiTER must submit one 500 word sample of their writing. Once a week two random entries will be placed head to head for a WRiTE. For each WRiTE members vote for their favorite sample. After the 12 week preliminaries the winners will go head to head with other winners until a final winner is chosen.
Everything is anonymous. All entries have pen names and the WRiTERS aren't allowed to tell people to vote for them. That's totally cool too it's good clean fun.
There are many more rules, but if you want to check it out you have to go hereIf you want to submit an entry there is still time left. Also you have to register if you want to vote on entries. I hope you consider joining this awesome event.

YA Highway RTW: Leslie Enchanted

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

This Week's Topic, to prepare for our Bookmobile chat about INCARNATE with author Jodi Meadows next Tuesday, July 31:
If you could be reincarnated as any fictional character, which would it be?

This one was really hard to do. Not because I thought of too many, but I couldn't think of a really good one. So I just did the ultimate cop-out and chose Ella from Ella Enchanted. Ella Enchanted is the only books I've read over ten times. It never gets old.

My tattered copy
Ella is very strong, independent and a overall funny gal. Despite her curse she tries her hardest to stay true to herself no matter what order is given to her. (She not afraid to sock a girl in the face.) When she's sick of the orders given to her, she take her life into her own hands and sets off on a journey to find Lucinda, the fairy who cursed her. Ella also isn't afraid of all of the magic in her world. She shows no fear when it comes to giants, elves and ogres. I mean, the girl can talk a pack of hungry ogres to sleep. This girl doesn't need saving.

Not only is she a strong person with a great personality,  but her strength and personality catches the eye of Prince Char. Oh Prince to Westley from the Princess Bride, he's at the top of my list of fictional crushes.

What characters would you like to be reincarnated as? And just for fun who is your fictional character crush?

Life Update

So this week I started a Vlog. Here's the video I made today. There are more. If you want to watch them all in order go here

I'm not getting as much writing in as I want to. But I did get a nice start. This week I am dedicating myself 100% to get 1000+ words in a day. I'll keep you updated.

Still haven't finished reading any books. Life's crazy like that.

I think I need to be on the internet less. That will solve 95% of my problems.

Too much math for one day.

YA Highway Road Trip Wednesday

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

This Week's Topic: When you need creative inspiration, where do you go?

Since I am home for the summer I have limited transportation to go where I want to go when I write. So most of the time I am stuck at home. Sometimes I'm desperate for a change of scenery so I move around my house. Sometimes I go to the kitchen. Other times I go to the living room. I rarely write in my bedroom. I'm boring I know.

One thing that really got my creative juices flowing was walking around the block with my mom. I talk a lot, but when I am at home no one wants to listen to me rambling about my WIP. When I am walking with my mom I finally have a chance to explain to someone what I'm writing, new ideas and how excited I am to finish. And she listens! That's all I ask for. Once I'm back in the house I can crank out about 1k.

Sometimes for creative inspiration I go to my best friend. My current WIP is about two best friends and I basically take elements from our friendship (the good and the bad) and put it in my story. Whether it's through text, tweets or I have the rare chance to hang out with her, she always inspires new ideas for my WIP.

Reading also inspires me. It reminds me of what I my ultimate goal is when I write. Sometimes I lose sight of that.

So tell me readers, where do do you for creative inspiration? Who inspires you to write? Leave a comment below.

Happy Reading!

30 Days of Vlogging

To kick myself in the pants to start vlogging more like a promised I started a 30 Days of Vlogging. I'm excited to see what kind of topics I'll talk about this month. I know I'll be packing and getting ready for school during that last week so that will be interesting. To start things off I declared Mondays as Morphinominal Mondays where I talk about Power Rangers. It's the one thing I know a lot about. I'm a dork. Anyway here is my first vlog, I hope you enjoy!

Lately I've been stressed. I have a million things on my mind and it's been affecting my writing. Sometimes the stress is good. Like when I have a bunch of ideas that I just have to it write down and crack out 2000 words in a night. However, other times on top of the ideas I start thinking about life in general and as a college student, life is pretty complicated. On those days I can't even get out 200 words.
It kind of sucks, but I found that relaxation helps me with clearing my head. I'm not really stating anything new, but this is what was on my mind.
So what did I do to help with my stress? I learned ho to knit a hat. Actually two hats I'm working on my third one right now.
School Colors
While knitting I'm not really thinking about my WIP or school or my life struggles. I'm just trying to make sure I don't mess up the hat. I'll hopefully learn how to knit something other than a hat. Since my head it is clear sitting down to write has been much easier.
Reading Update: I started chapter two in Catch-22. I'm trying. My dad assures me it gets better. Currently on my list of summer reads I am a third of the way through The Liar Society.
Writing Update: So as you can see from my word count meter I have reached over14,000 words in my WIP. This is the farthest I've gotten since I finished my first novel junior year in high school.
Chocolate Update: Skinny Cow White Mint Truffle bars. Best ice cream bar EVER. I'm addicted. It's minty with a little chocolate drizzle to satisfy my chocolate cravings. I'm going to try other ice cream bars in that brand. I'll keep you updated.
What do you do to relax when stressed? How does it work for you? What chocolaty treat should I try?

Made this one for mom

Summer Goals

I know I have a problem with regular posting. Now that I'm practicing taking time out of my day to write I decided to use some it to make a post. So, what has being going on in the world of Leslie?

This week in reading: I recently started reading again. For some reason, when I am at school I can't find time to read, but I keep buying new books. Now I have a pile of books I purchased in the last year that I haven't read. I started most of them but life happened and I got super busy and forgot to finish them. Now those books have second and third books that are coming out this summer/already released.

Bossypants by Tina Fey: I love Tina Fey. I bought this last summer.

Matched by Ally Condie:  Crossed is already out and Reached will be out in November.

Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer: Bloodrose is already out.

Wing of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton: Bought that during the school year.

Supernaturally by Kiersten White: Endlessly is coming out this month!

Trial By Fire by Jennifer Lynn Barns: I didn't even know Taken by Storm was out until I saw it at the bookstore last week.

Shut Out by Kody Keplinger: I was in an adaption of Lysistrata last year and thought it would be fun to read.

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray: I got fifty pages in before school started last fall.

Getting Revenge on Lauren Wood by Eileen Cook: I got half way through during winter break then school happened.

The Liar Society by Lisa and Laura Roecoker: Lies that Bind will be out in November.

XVI and Truth by Julia Karr: I bought those at Julia's release party during the school year. I met her she was really nice and signed my copies.

So I plan on getting through all these book by the end of summer. Hopefully the sequels as well. And there are still new releases that aren't in this pile that I want to read. I'm also trying to read Catch 22 by Joesph Heller. My dad has been asking me to read it for years. I read the first couple pages in high school and didn't like it. When I came home from school last month by dad had bought a copy and it sat on top of the fridge for the longest time. I decided to start it again without telling him. (Mom if you're reading this don't tell dad!) I am only one chapter in and I find it easier to read now. Maybe it's because of all the lit classes I took freshman year. I don't know, I'll give you a progress report as I get further in the story.

This week in writing: Slow. I've barely written 2,000 words this week. I'm pushing through. I looked back at all of the WIP I had on my jump drive and saw that I stopped writing around 10,000-12,000 words. Hopefully once I get passed that 12,000 mark I'll feel confident to keep going. I love this story and the characters. I really want to see where they go from here. My goal is to get 60,000 word by the end of the summer. Cross your fingers for me.

As you can see I have a word count gadget on the upper right hand corner of the sidebar. I got it from Svenja Liv's blog. It's typically used for NaNoWriMo, but you can use it year round. If you click the image, it will lead you to the site.

This week in chocolate: I need some. The description of my blog says "Leslie's philosophy on reading, writing and how chocolate helps you through it." Since I have no chocolate maybe that's why I'm struggling. Since it's the Fourth of July I might find some chocolaty treats at my family's cook out...

What are your summer goals? Is it reading more? Trying to be healthier? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Reading!

P.S. I'm giving away Just for Fins bookmarks and Mer Mark tattoos here. All you have to do to enter is to tell me your favorite summer memory. Contest ends on Sunday.

***EDIT: Sorry about the white. I don't know why it did that.***

Just For Fins Release Day!!!

Wow time flies by so fast. Tera Lynn Childs' third book in the Forgive my Fins series Just for Fins is out today. If you haven't heard about Forgive my Fins or Tera Lynn Childs then go here. I can't believe it's been three years since Forgive my Fins was released and I've been on the Splash Team. I am so glad to be apart of such an amazing group. Tera has been so kind to take the time out of her crazy writers schedule to chat with us. She even has this awesome forum that every TLC fan should check out and post topics. Check it out now! Tera is really good about responding to posts. It's a great forum.
Here is the the synopsis of Just for Fins:

"When Lily Sanderson decided to remain Crown Princess Waterlily of the mer kingdom of Thalassinia, she knew she couldn't just coast along in the current. But since she's spent the last couple of years on land, Lily's not sure she has the fins to lead a kingdom. Even her maddeningly pretentious cousin Dosinia seems to know more about ruling than she does.
But Lily has to dive in deep to keep her promise to Tellin, her mer bond in name only, who tells her his kingdom is suffering in the changing ocean climate. Lily knows this is a seven seas–sized problem. They'll need to create some serious waves to make the mer community aware and get it to join together to make things right. Lily has to lead the way, even if that means facing one of the iciest queens in the mer kingdoms.
Just when Lily thinks her double life on land and sea can't get any more complicated, an ancient mer law might separate Lily and her human boyfriend, Quince, after all. It feels as if the pair is up against a solid tsunami wave!
In this third installment in the series that began with Forgive My Fins and Fins Are Forever, Lily will have to find a way to balance safety and justice for the mer people and for the humans she loves."

To celebrate the release, I will be giving away some Just for Fins bookmarks and mermaid tattoos. I will be giving away about five, depending on how many people enter. If there are more than ten entries then I will try add more. It's not as glamorous as giving away a book, but I wanted to do something to celebrate. To enter write in the comments your favorite summer memory. The contest will end Sunday July 8, 2012 at 11:59 pm. Winners will be announced the following Monday. This is giveaway is only open to US residents but if you're international and itching to share your memory you can, just let me know you're international.

My favorite summer memory was last summer when I went to the beach each with three of my friend. We blasted 90s music, took failed jumping pictures and stopped at this pig themed ice cream shop on our way back. It was the best beach day ever!
